LACK OF COVERAGE AND YOUR PEORIA, AZ HOMEOWNERS POLICY

I recently heard a sad story.  One of my wife’s co-workers had her apartment flooded – for the second time in a month!  The first time, the water pipe attached to her washing machine burst, flooding the apartment.  The second time, the water pipe attached to the washing machine in the apartment over hers broke, flooding both of their apartments!  She got hold of her Insurance Company and discovered that while most of her stuff was covered, some of it had a “coverage limit,” and the value of her items exceeded that limit.  The saddest part she is that she “assumed” she was fully covered, as she had never actually read her policy!  That’s why if you rent or own a home, you should be most interested in LACK OF COVERAGE AND YOUR PEORIA, AZ HOMEOWNERS–OR RENTERS–POLICY.

“I try to go over every possible scenario with my clients when they buy a Homeowners or Renters Policy,” Jim Bivona of Bivona Insurance Group, LLC, an Independent Insurance Agency that services the Phoenix Metro area regarding Insurance including Phoenix, Scottsdale, Glendale, and Peoria Arizona to name just a few, shared, “but often the homeowner or tenant doesn’t share important information with me, and as a result there may be issues not covered that they might have noted had they read the policy.

These “issues” include, but are not limited to:

  • Burst Water Pipes – The damage caused by the pipes is covered, but most often repair of the pipes is not!
  • Dog Bites from Certain Breeds – As some breeds are considered “high risk,” you need to verify if your pet is covered or not.
  • Mold – One of the more complicated issues, coverage may be denied if the mold is the result of poorly maintained water pipes that burst.
  • Nuclear Accidents – This may seem ludicrous – unless your home is located within a ten mile radius of Palo Verde! Bad News – your Insurance won’t cover you! Good News – The Price-Anderson Act of 1957 protects you!
  • Trampolines – Most Insurance Companies do NOT consider these harmless pieces of athletic equipment. However, through proper research you can learn more about trampoline coverage!
  • Terrorist Acts & War – These simply are not insurable events.
